EXPERIENCE
Joseph C. DeFazio started his career as an attorney for Perfilio & Marquet, where he began to work in Worker’s Compensation and liability. After two years, Joe DeFazio became a Worker’s Compensation defense staff council for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. He then associated with the firm of Michals, Wahl, Silver & Leitner and shortly thereafter became a partner. The firm became known as Leitner, Tort & DeFazio and is now proudly called Leitner Tort DeFazio & Brause, P.C.. Joseph received his B.A. from St. Peter’s College and J.D. from Western New England College.
Mr. DeFazio’s areas of practice include negligence, Workers’ Compensation, municipal court law and real estate. He belongs to the New Jersey State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, New Jersey Defense Association, and the Monmouth County Bar Association. Joe DeFazio has handled a wide variety of cases, including pulmonary asbestos and silicosis cases. In addition, he was named one of New Jersey’s super lawyers from 2006 to 2012.
He is involved with several organizations including the St. Peter’s College Alumni Association in which he served as the original chairman of the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. He also plays an important role in the University of Alabama’s Alumni Association where he began the Vincent J. DeFazio Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Advertising in honor of his late son. Joseph and his wife reside in Barnegat, NJ where they raised their three sons.
